Tow truck driver tows car away with 5-year-old girl inside, SAPD says (TX)

SAN ANTONIO – A tow truck driver is under investigation after San Antonio police said he towed a car with a 5-year-old girl inside.

According to San Antonio police, the girl’s mother called 911 around 10:55 a.m. Monday to report her child missing and in danger.

The mother told officers that she had parked her car at an apartment complex in the 11500 block of Blanco Road and left it running with emergency flashers on while she tried to contact a neighbor.

The mother, who is 9 months pregnant, told police that she was in eyesight of her daughter and was waiting outside the apartment when a tow truck “swooped in” and towed her car away with her daughter inside. She said the tow truck driver took the car away without properly chaining it and installing a brake light system.

A witness then gave the mother a ride to follow the truck but she had a medical emergency and had to pull over at the 11550 block of Blanco Road, police said.

The mother eventually was taken to Trinity Towing in the 11500 block of Jones Maltsberger Road, where she was reunited with her daughter, police said.

The tow truck driver is under investigation on a charge of child endangerment, police said.
