Tow Truck Involved Fatal Accident 06.21.24 (CA)

A stranded motorist was killed Friday morning by a 17-year-old hit-and-run driver on the 14 Freeway in Acton.

 

Around 1:20 a.m. Friday, CHP officers received reports of a three-vehicle crash on the 14 Freeway south of Red Rover Mine in Acton, said Officer Josh Greengard, a spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

 

“A tow truck was assisting a disabled Honda Pilot SUV on the right shoulder, the driver of the tow truck and the driver of the Honda were standing outside the Honda when a Nissan Altima collided into the rear of the Honda,” Greengard said. “This collision pushed the Honda Pilot into the pedestrians.”


This crash caused fatal injuries to the driver of the Honda Pilot.

 

“After the collision, the driver of the Altima fled the scene on foot and was later apprehended at Henry Mayo Hospital,” Greengard said.

 

The suspect was a 17-year-old juvenile male.

 

The identity of the person killed has not been released to the media pending notification of next of kin.

 

Motorist Killed In 14 Freeway Accident Identified

 

The motorist who was killed on the 14 freeway last Friday by a juvenile hit-and-run driver has been identified. 

 

Hector Aranda, 22, was identified as the man killed on Friday morning as the motorist killed by a 17-year-old hit-and-run driver in Acton on June 14, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

A tow truck was assisting a disabled Honda Pilot SUV on the right shoulder, the driver of the tow truck and the driver of the Honda were standing outside the Honda when a Nissan Altima collided into the rear of the Honda when the collision pushed the Honda Pilot into the pedestrians.

 

After the collision occurred the driver of the Altima fled the scene on foot and was later apprehended at Henry Mayo Newhall hospital. 

 

No charges have been announced as of Saturday.
