Deck Winches on Rotators (from 2006)

For all those with rotators, how many of you use the deck mounted winches? I was wondering because you don't see alot of units with two deck mounted drag winches and I was wondering how many if any have the two winches and if you do, do you really use them both? And if you only have 1, do you think you would need the other one?Ant

I don't have one, but since NRC and Jerr-dan offer the winches on the first stage of the boom. You can snatch block your deck winches to your first or second stage to do lift rolls and such. Other than that, if I had one, I would use one deck winch for winch outs. I rarely use more than one line.
The thought of snatch blocking off the boom seems like my best guess though.

As far as deck winches I believe Sullivans has them on his truck. We ordered the 3rd winch option on our new truck but I can't tell you anything about it yet. We hope it was a worth while buy for recovery purposes.

Mine is just like Scott's...all 50,000 lbs

I think that you can get a single or pair of 35,000 lbs also

I have a 35000 pd deck winch on my 1060 rotator and love it. It makes doing a controlled roll so much easier and safer and also if you are holding a trailer or such from turning over it is really nice to take the third line for the winchout. If you ever get the chance to go to the rotator school put on by Miller it is well worth the time. Tom and John show you a lot of useful tricks with the drag winch.

Have 2 35,000 lb on ours. Just like any thing they have their times of use. Can be difficult at times to use while working the boom off the side. If your running your line from them to the boom. Wished the were mounted on the boom on that type job. But can't have it all I guess. Great on winch outs and to just have that little extra security at times when doing a recovery. Is nice!

There is a new Factory option that was shown at Baltimore that puts a d-ring on the base of the turret. This allows the deck winch to be used similar as if it were on the boom.

markdtn I saw that option looks like it makes it a lot easier.
