Did Age play a factor in not understanding the danger? Sounds like they could have just busted backwards thru the gate to avoid the train. Yet they likely felt trapped which caused the impact which claimed 3 lives. The Gate and any damage to their vehicle could be repaired. Always remember in situations your life isn't worth risking.

 

Also, what precautions could law enforcement have taken in this incident? I hope that if I am working that close to the tracks I would have recognized the danger. This should be in our training meetings, you should be conducting regular safety meetings. Does your company conduct regular safety meetings?
